Reflections, and What is Next

Well, the fat lady sung a sad song today. The 2006 midterm election is over and it appears that the house as well as the senate is in the control of the Democratic Party. I don't know exactly what well happen, but I really hope it is not as bad as we said it would be if the Dems take over. There is going to be a minimum wage hike and probably a repeal of the Bush tax cuts. That means the economy well slow down again, but I am not as worried about the economy as I am worried about security and judges. I am worried for the USA PATRIOT act which the Dems could choose not to renew. I am worried about Border security. I am worried about North Korea and Iran. And I am worried about our troops in Iraq and I am worried for the Iraqi people. While the republicans failed to secure the border and failed to provide appropriate equipment to win the war in Iraq, they where making considerable progress. However, with the Democrats in control of spending, I don't think there well be too much more progress with regards to securing our borders, and I really don't think that there well be enough funds given to the military to protect out troops and to protect our homeland. But also judges. Bush had reasonable luck appointing good conservative judges with a majority in the senate, but now that the Dems have control of the senate, I am not sure how many good judges we well get confirmed to the bench under a democratically controlled senate.

So what is next? Election 2008. It has already unofficially started a while ago, but with the election of 2006 over with, I declare that the Election of 2008 is officially on. So what do the Republicans need to do to keep the presidency and to regain control of the house and senate? I believe that if the lessons we learned in this election cycle where applied to this next election, we can win. The big huge major problem that the Republican party has had of the past few years was in the area of PR. While Press Relations could have improved, they where not what caused the Dems to win this year. We had the same liberal press in 200, 2002 and 2004 that we do now. It is Public Relations. We need an executive that can relate to the public, to people of this country. As good as this president and his administration has been, he has been utterly unable to communicate his ideas to the country and to adequately justify them and to unite the country behind them. If you take for example the debates with Sen. Kerry in 2004, you can see that the president does not have the ability to connect and to unite the people with his message. We nee a president who can do that. Who that is, I do not know. But I know this. Come time for the Republican National Committee, the delegates need to focus on nominating someone who is ELECTIBLE not just someone who is completely loyal to the Republican Party.
